ALUMNI > Make A Major Gift
“I want to make a Major Gift to Camp Haiastan”
Camp Haiastan, a 501 (C)(3) corporation in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, receives gifts of cash, securities, personal property and real estate to support capital projects, programs and activities, as well as endowment for Camperships and Financial Aid.
Contributing stocks or other appreciated assets to Camp Haiastan can increase the value of your gift and reduce your taxes. Donating appreciated stock or property to Camp Haiastan enables you to deduct the fair market value of the investment asset while avoiding paying capital gains tax. If your investment has decreased in value, sell it and contribute the proceeds to Camp Haiastan. This way, you will receive both a charitable gift deduction and a capital loss deduction. Your gift to Camp Haiastan is tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. Please be sure to consult with your legal counsel as well as your tax advisor.
Gift of Stock and Bonds:
Stock certificates may be hand delivered or received via UPS/FedEx or US Mail to Roy Callan, Executive Director or Richard Krikorian, Treasurer and manager of Camp Haiastan’s financial and securities portfolios and are effective upon the date of receipt. Contact Richard Krikorian to discuss whether bonds may be sold through a broker that Camp Haiastan has a relationship with or to discuss negotiability of closely held stock.

Stock and Bond Transfer Information:
Electronic stock transactions are effective upon the date of receipt into Camp Haiastan’s account. Donors should anticipate several days of delay in transferring funds from their account. Please contact Richard Krikorian by mail or email at the address above with questions regarding Camp Haiastan brokerage account numbers for transfer purposes and to advise him of your recent stock transfer to discuss any specific instructions that you wish to apply to your gift.
Gifts of Real Estate:
Please discuss making a gift of real estate to Camp Haiastan with your tax advisor and legal counsel before taking steps to transfer or sell your interest in real property to maximize tax benefits of your gift. Please contact Roy Callan, Executive Director or Richard Krikorian, Treasurer by mail or email (address above) to discuss your plan to make a gift of real estate. A gift of real estate with retained life interest brings a current charitable income tax deduction as well as the knowledge that the donor is providing for the future of Camp Haiastan. Personal residences, vacation homes and farms qualify for this type of gift.
Gifts of Life Insurance:
Giving through life insurance can allow a donor to make a gift of assets no longer needed for the family’s security. A donor may give new or existing policies or assign proceeds to be paid in part or in full to Camp Haiastan.
Gifts Through Your Will or Charitable Trust:
Remembering Camp Haiastan in a Will or Trust provides for Camp Haiastan’s future programs while the amount of the gift is deducted from the taxable portion of the testator’s estate.
Matching Gifts and Direct Payroll Deduction Gifts:
Matching gifts by your employer — or former employer, if you are retired — can double or triple your gift. Please contact Roy Callan, Executive Director or Richard Krikorian, Treasurer by mail or email (contact information above) to ask about Matching Gifts programs. Many employers participate in charitable donation programs for their employees through direct payroll deduction for qualifying charities. Camp Haiastan usually qualifies for these programs because we are a 501 (C)(3) corporation.
Memorial Gifts For Facilities:
Donations will be allocated toward the support and/or renovation of specific existing facilities, or for new facilities as designated by the family in memoriam of a loved one. In specific cases the Board of Directors will outline the procedure to a family for a facility to be named in honor of the family member being honored (i.e. the Linda Bahtiarian Demarest Pavilion Fund).
Camp Haiastan’s Endowment:
A minimum gift of $10,000 establishes a permanent fund in the name of the donor or in memory of a loved one. Donors may designate specific facilities, programs or activities that will benefit from the yearly incomes of such funds. Donors to Camp Haiastan have established several permanent endowments some of which are directed toward Camperships and Financial Aid (Tahmasian Fund, Jelalian Fund and Gregian Fund) for camp families whose children would not experience the wonderful benefits of Camp Haiastan without financial assistance. Other endowments are directed toward support of programs, capital improvements or facilities (IAN Fund, and Fermanian Fund).
Simple Bequest Language for your Will:
The following is an example of a statement that is suggested as a template for bequest language for your will. As always we advise consultation with your legal counsel, your tax advisor and Roy Callan, Executive Director and Richard Krikorian, Treasurer of Camp Haiastan (contact information above).
