About Camp Haiastan:
Camp Haiastan of The Armenian Youth Federation, Inc. is located in the picturesque town of Franklin, in beautiful Southeastern Massachusetts. Just north of Providence, Rhode Island and southwest of Boston, Massachusetts, Camp Haiastan is within easy reach of both T.F. Green (Providence) and Logan (Boston) airports, the Massachusetts Turnpike and I-95. Camp Haiastan opened for the first campers in 1951 and is proudly the first residential summer camp established for Armenian youth in America that welcomes Armenian children from all over the United States and around the world. Actually the idea of Camp Haiastan dates back to 1937 when in its infancy in the United States, the Armenian Youth Federation Central Executive Board passed resolutions approving the establishing of an A.Y.F. camp in America. The A.Y.F. is headquartered in Watertown, MA and provides an array of programs and activities for Armenian youth.
For hundreds of campers each Summer, Camp Haiastan has meant a full service up-to-date residential camp setting featuring a renowned educational program of Armenian culture, enrichment and identity building. There are boating activities in our beautiful spring fed Uncas Pond, aquatic activities in the largest in-ground vinyl lined swimming pool in New England, and a variety of sports, athletics, and outdoor camp activities on more than 100 acres of pristine wooded land.
Our modern and well-maintained buildings house camper and staff residences as well as provide support services that meet the needs of all in residence. The cozy “Cabin Circle” promotes our Armenian family atmosphere and camping philosophy. In addition we have a modern food service and dining facility and an infirmary staffed at all times by a resident nurse. These are characteristics of this remarkable place that is now serving the third generation of its first campers who attend in the 50’s. Today as then, the bonds of friendships made at Camp Haiastan promise to last a lifetime.
